Advair Dosing – What You Need to Know
Advair is a medication used to help prevent asthma attacks. It is a combination of two medications: fluticasone and salmeterol. Fluticasone works to stop the body from releasing certain substances in the body which can lead to inflammation. This is a steroid. Salmeterol, on the other hand, is a bronchodilator which relaxes airway muscles which helps to improve breathing. In order to get the most benefit from this medication, you will need to ensure you have the right advair dosage as no two people are alike. Be aware that this is not medical advice and it is best to speak to your doctor about which advair dosage is right for you.
There are many things you need to know when it comes to your advair dosage. First and foremost, salmeterol has been shown to increase the risk of death as a result of asthma. You must never take this medication for a time period longer than what your doctor has recommended. Make sure you take the right dose also. If your regular advair dosage does not appear to be working, you need to get medical help as this can be a warning sign that a major asthma attack is coming on.
Advair is only approved for use in patients four years of age and older. The standard advair dosage is two times a day. One does will be taken in the morning and the second should be used approximately 12 hours later. The amount will be based on how bad your symptoms are. If you are suffering from COPD. the maintenance dose is 250/50 while the maximum dose for any patient is 500/50 two times a day. Patients between the ages of four and 11 who have been prescribed Advair will receive two doses approximately 12 hours apart also. These doses will be 100/50. Your doctor will make adjustments to your dosage based on how severe your symptoms are.
If you develop asthma symtoms between doses, you should not take another dose. An beta-agnoist of short acting duration should be used when this is the case. This provides immediate relief so you can get back to what you were doing. Advair is helpful for many with asthma, but only when the medication is taken as directed.
